A look at the brand-new 2023 Kia Niro EV and hybrid

A look at the brand-new 2023 Kia Niro EV and hybrid

The 2023 Kia Niro was unveiled earlier this year and it is about to arrive on the market. The new Niro is a brand-new generation of the small Kia crossover and it brings a brand-new design with distinct elements that will make it immediately recognizable on the road. Moreover, the new-generation Niro gets a brand-new interior complete with a new infotainment system and a lot of new features. It will continue to be offered as a plug-in hybrid, a hybrid, or a fully electric model. Here is everything you want to know about the 2023 Kia Niro.

The interior has been fully redesigned

The first thing you notice about the new 2023 Kia Niro is the interior. The new dual driver-centric displays wrap around the driver and provide easy visibility and access to a range of features including navigation, comfort, and connectivity technology. The dual screen setup provides a digital instrument cluster as well as a large centre display to access the various functions.

There is a lot more interior space in the Niro. Rear leg room stretches nearly 40 inches which provides more legroom than a Toyota RAV4. Legroom upfront is rated at 41.5 inches and the new Kia Niro offers nearly 1,800 L of total cargo space. In other words, there is a lot of space in the 2023 Niro and the interior is simply stunning

Two efficient hybrid options

The 2023 Kia Niro will be offered standard with a hybrid powertrain which pairs a 1.6 L four-cylinder engine with an electric motor for a total output of 139 hp and 195 pound-feet of torque. This engine provides ample horsepower, but its most discerning feature is its fuel economy. Early reports suggest that the new Niro will average under 5 L per 100 km and average fuel consumption.

The 2023 Kia Niro PHEV has the same powertrain, but it offers 180 hp. That means quicker accelerations and thanks to a larger 11.1-kWh lithium-ion battery, the new Niro PHEV can go over 50 km without needing to be recharged. The larger 62-kW electric motor can provide enough power with this battery to get you to work and back without needing a single drop of fuel.

The impressive new 2023 Kia Niro EV

The new 2023 Kia Niro EV will feature a 64.8-kWh battery compared to a 150-kW electric motor. This motor delivers the equivalent of 201 hp while the battery offers quick Level III fast charging at 85 kW. This means you can replenish 80% of the battery in under 45 minutes. There is also an 11-kW onboard charger which means you can charge faster at home. A Level II charger will give the Niro its full range in about seven hours. There is also an optional heat pump and battery warmer which will allow you to preserve range in cold Ontario winters.

And speaking of range, the 2023 Kia Niro EV improves upon the range of the previous generation. The new Niro EV has 407 km of range according to Kia.

Every 2023 Kia Niro will come with different drive modes that allow you to personalize how the vehicle feels on the road. That said 2023 Kia Niro also introduces a new Green Zone mode which provides even more impressive efficiency. Pair this with advanced safety features and the impressive Kia Connect advanced in-vehicle connectivity system which provides unprecedented access to the vehicle using a mobile phone and an available digital key which uses the smartphone to enter and start the vehicle, and you have a very advanced electric or hybrid vehicle that gives you more.
