All-New Kia EV5: A Canada-Exclusive Electric SUV with Practical Design and Versatile Performance

Kia is introducing the EV5, a compact electric SUV that will be sold exclusively in Canada within the North American market. Designed to make EV ownership more accessible, the EV5 aims to balance affordability with the features and space expected from a modern SUV. Its official public debut took place at the 2025 Canadian International Auto Show, ahead of its expected arrival at dealerships in 2026.

The EV5 follows Kia’s established design principles, sharing styling elements with the larger EV9 while maintaining a smaller, more maneuverable footprint. A spacious interior, two battery options, and a choice between front-wheel and all-wheel drive provide buyers with practical flexibility. Along with its efficient electric powertrain, the EV5 supports North America’s expanding fast-charging infrastructure, making it a functional option for Canadian drivers considering an EV.

Functional Design with a Strong Road Presence

The EV5 incorporates Kia’s recognizable ‘tiger face’ grille and 3D star map lighting signature. Its upright stance and sculpted lines contribute to a balanced profile that prioritizes both aerodynamics and visibility. The vehicle’s proportions ensure ample interior space while maintaining efficient exterior dimensions. A range of alloy wheel options—available in 18, 19, and 20 inches—adds to its visual character, while the rear spoiler enhances aerodynamic performance.

Kia is offering the EV5 in eight exterior colours, including two new options for the brand: Magma Red and Frost Blue. The design approach blends function with aesthetics, ensuring the EV5 is well-suited to urban and highway driving alike.

A Practical and Comfortable Interior

Inside, the EV5 emphasizes simplicity and comfort. A clean, minimalist dashboard layout is paired with soft-touch materials and sustainable elements used throughout the cabin. The vehicle integrates Kia’s standard set of ten environmentally conscious materials, continuing the brand’s shift toward more responsible manufacturing choices.

The interior features nearly 30 inches of panoramic display space, combining driving information and infotainment controls in a single interface. Seating for five provides generous shoulder width and legroom, with flat-folding second-row seats offering flexibility for cargo. Additional storage space in the front trunk allows for items such as a charging cable or emergency kit. An available ambient lighting system enables further customization, adapting the cabin’s mood to the driver’s preference.

Battery and Drivetrain Options for Canadian Roads

The EV5 will be offered with two battery sizes: a standard-range 60.3 kWh pack and a long-range 81.4 kWh version. Buyers can also choose between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, making the vehicle adaptable to different driving needs and road conditions.

Charging convenience is a priority, with the EV5 featuring a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. This allows access to an increasing number of DC fast-charging stations across Canada, estimated to be 61% more than previously available. Combined with Kia’s focus on affordability, these features make the EV5 a practical choice for drivers considering an electric transition.

The EV5 exemplifies Kia’s effort to lower the barriers to EV adoption while maintaining the space, capability, and technology expected from a modern SUV. To learn more about its availability and features, contact Cardinal Kia for the latest updates.
